Abstract

Currently, shallot farmers have used light traps to control onion caterpillar pests (Spodoptera exigua). The moths are attracted to light and come to the lamp and are trapped. Farmers also experimented with various colored light traps. The results showed different numbers of moths caught. This study aims to evaluate the use of light traps in trapping S. exigua moths in shallot plantations. in Sisalam Village, Wanasari District, Brebes. The study took place in July - September 2020. The experimental design used was a completely randomized design (CRD) with 4 treatments, namely P1 = 18 watt white lamp, P2 = 15 watt UV lamp, P3 = 5 watt white lamp, P4 = pheromone sticky trap. The experiment was repeated 6 times. Based on the results of the study, S. exigua moths were caught in all traps installed on the onion plantations. The highest number of moths were caught in the UV lamp trap (4074 individuals), followed by the pheromone sticky trap (1451 individuals), the 18 watt white lamp trap (153 individuals), and finally the 5 watt white lamp trap (46 individuals). The intensity of pest attacks on shallot plants. The lowest intensity of pest attacks was in the 5 watt white lamp experimental plot (10%) and the highest intensity of pest attacks was in the UV lamp experimental plot (31.61%). The lowest intensity of pest attack on shallot plants was found in the experimental plot with 5 watts of white light (10%) and the highest intensity of pest attack was found in the experimental plot with UV lamps (31.61%). This is due to the fact that the arriving moths are not accommodated in the trap and escape to the plant plot. On the plants, the moths laid eggs and later attacked the plants.
