Abstract

Mung bean (Vigna radiata L.) is one of the staple food crops widely cultivated in several Asian countries, including Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines, and India. Mung beans are utilized as a food source due to their high protein and carbohydrate content. The objective of this study was to isolate and identify endophytic fungi associated with mung beans. The research was conducted through several stages, including sampling of mung bean plants, isolation of endophytic fungi, and characterization of the endophytic fungi. The study was carried out from December 2023 to March 2024 in the Plant Protection Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Bengkulu. Mung bean samples were collected from two different locations: the Plant Protection experimental field at the University of Bengkulu and the Agroecotechnology field at the University of Bengkulu. Based on the identification results, four endophytic fungi were identified, while two others remained unidentified. Among the identified fungi, two isolates, CE4 and CE6, were classified under the same genus, Rhizoctonia sp.. Isolate CE1 was identified as Aspergillus sp., and isolate CE5 was identified as Fusarium sp.
